Before You're Cheated, Here's How to Recognize Fake Apple Airpods

The iPhone AirPods created a buzz in the audio industry, and sales of Apple wireless headphones across the world practically exploded. Despite the incredibly high price, the company struggled to keep up with demand during the first months of marketing. This strong demand from customers fuelled the appetite of scammers. You can find hundreds of fake AirPods by typing the word "cheap" into a search engine, and the most dangerous part is that this form of product is being published on some unscrupulous forums, and customers are unaware that they have fallen victim to fake headphones at the moment they think they are getting a good deal.

Simply put, counterfeit headphones aren't necessarily of the same quality or technology as Apple's true wireless headphones; for example, you won't be able to transform your AirPods into a specific hearing device or share your music between two pairs of headphones.

How to Spot Fake AirPods:

When you try to purchase AirPods from a particular website, the first thing you should do is look at the exterior features of the headset. You should know that Apple has only sold these types of headphones in white since their launch, so if an online vendor offers you a black edition, know that it is a knockoff. Imitation is what it's all about.

The second thing to look for is the existence of L (left) and R (right) inscriptions on the headphones, as certain counterfeiters ignore them, and the original AirPods Pro, for example, have a motion detection sensor that is seldom seen on counterfeits.

Make sure the serial numbers are correct:

If you're certain your wireless headphones aren't a fake, there's a way that can't be stopped:

● Open the charging case for the headphones

The AirPods serial number is highlighted in the close cap

● Write this unique symbol on a piece of paper

Then go to the Apple support site

● Enter your serial number

● The site will confirm whether the code is valid or not

This is the most accurate way to authenticate your AirPods, but it's worth noting that this approach necessitates the use of headphones, which is the technology's only flaw. Here's another way to locate the serial number of your AirPods:

  • On your iPhone's desktop, tap the Settings button.
  • Select the Bluetooth option.
  • Activate the icon
A new window will appear containing various technical information about the headphones, in particular the serial number

* If your computer is running iOS 14 or later and your AirPods are paired, go to Settings> General> About and scroll down until you see the name of your AirPods, then tap the name.
