WhatsApp will ask you for a Wi-Fi connection so you can use it on other devices

WhatsApp has been working for a few months on a job that many users have been demanding for years: the ability to use the messaging app on other devices without relying on a mobile phone. Telegram allows it with its clients for computers, tablets or the web, by synchronizing messages with the server instead of the mobile phone. Now, WhatsApp has made a new change to this feature in the app.

Although it still cannot be activated, in the latest beta version 2.20.143 of WhatsApp for Android, they added a new section in their code to log in on a new device. Thanks to this, even if we have a mobile phone in airplane mode, we can still use WhatsApp on a tablet or on a computer.
In the new window that they added in the app icon, you can see how it will be part of the process of logging into a new device. When opened, WhatsApp will tell us that it is necessary to connect to the WiFi network to continue, and explains below that "Without WiFi, login can be a slow process, and a large portion of your data rate can be used."

Most likely, what WhatsApp does is transfer all user data to the new device, including WhatsApp chat history or multimedia content that we have downloaded on mobile. Even if it's just a message log, we're talking about hundreds of megabytes of information so you need a Wi-Fi connection to sync it instead of slow 3G or 4G data.
In short, when the functionality is turned on, it will be very important as WhatsApp requests that both the new device and our mobile phone be connected to WiFi to avoid consuming too much data from our cellphone price. You will not be prompted for the WiFi to be the same, because the sync will take place online and not over the local network.
