Citizen Lab discovered that WeChat, the famous Tencent Messaging App, has the same contents access, which was previously considered to be strictly reserved for China's registered accounts.
The Canadian research group said that WeChat is required to obey the laws and regulations of Chinese authorities with respect to prohibited material, as like any other Internet portal operating in China. However, Citizen Lab has reported that these laws and guidelines are now also applicable to non-Chinese registered accounts.
WeChat is responsible for tracking users outside of China, Citizen Lab reports. This tracking takes place without users being informed and is configured dynamically.
Citizen Labor has stated that the company has not previously seen censorship of international accounts, and users can send and receive messages that China-unregistered users can not.
